Parental Consent
1. The commandant’s office, the director of college and career counseling, academic advisor, registrar, faculty member, chaplain, and coaches are available to speak with parents and guardians during normal working hours Monday- Friday (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. central time) at 573-581-1776. Parents/guardians are encouraged to first  communicate with their cadet’s Company Leadership Advisor (CLA), as that person will be the most knowledgeable about the cadet, CLAs are available 3:30 p.m. to | 1:30 p.m. Central Time.  To receive immediate emergency assistance after hours, contact the Campus Command Post at 573-581- 1776 ext. 429.

  1. Parents should make every effort to contact the appropriate MMA representative and make an appointment prior to their arrival on campus. This is to ensure that the individual they wish to meet with is  available to discuss any concerns or questions.
  1. Visitors to the MMA campus are welcomed. For safety and security reasons, upon arrival, all visitors must sign in at Stribling Hall during normal working hours  or at the Bravo Company (officer in charge) desk during all other times. Access to the academic building and  barracks areas are restricted to faculty, staff,
    cadets, and officially sanctioned visits. Only during  specified times, approved by the commandant, are
    parents/guardians and visitors provided the  opportunity to visit cadets in pee am or barracks areas
  1. The MMA day is a highly regimented environment, Cadets may contact home Monday through Thursday
    via their computers (Skype or email) between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. During the academic day (8:05 a.m. – 3:40 p.m.), athletic practices (3:40 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.), evening meal (6:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.), and evening study hall Sunday-Thursday (7:15 p.m.-8:30 p.m.) cadets should not be calling home or receiving phone calls.

    To help ensure cadets receive adequate sleep, they are not permitted to use their cell phones, smart watches, computers, or electronic media for entertainment and/or social purposes, which includes calling, texting, Skyping, FaceTiming or emailing, or otherwise contacting home or anyone else after taps (10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday nights/10:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday nights).

    Our partnership and your adherence to this policy  supports your cadet’s success and our efforts to  reduce or eliminate distractions that negatively  impact academic performance or participation in athletic and corps activities.

  1. Cadet accountability (whereabouts) is maintained at all times. Cadets are required to attend all classes, physical fitness training, and cadet formations. Unexcused absences may result in disciplinary actions up to and including suspension. All cadets must properly sign out and in from furloughs, special permits, and holiday breaks; failure to do so will result in disciplinary action. Barracks are closed during winter and spring furloughs; cadets may not stay on campus during those two furlough periods.
  1. To support their success at MMA, cadets will not be permitted to miss class in order to leave or return late
    from furlough. The commandant must be contacted in writing to request an exception. Cadets who leave early or return late may not be able to make up missed work or exams for those classes. Cadets will be charged additional fees for unexcused absences. Cadets who habitually depart early or return late to campus from scheduled furloughs or open weekends may compromise leadership and promotion opportunities.
  1. The Cadet Handbook (regulations for the corps of cadets) provides rules and policies pertaining to daily operations and support, cadet behavior, personal appearance, accountability, training, and other issues. Strict adherence to the rules specified in the Cadet Handbook is expected of each cadet. Cadets are responsible for complying with MMA’s regulations and policy requirements and may face disciplinary actions up to dismissal for violations. Parents may not participate in the disciplinary process, but may provide input if the cadet chooses to appeal a disciplinary decision.
  1. The MMA Cadet Honor Code and Honor System is maintained and administered by the corps of cadets through the Cadet Honor Council and supervised by the commandant. Honor Code violations are taken very seriously with punishment imposed as outlined in the Cadet Honor Manual. Cadets may be provided remediation with sanctions, suspension or dismissal. Parents may not participate in the honor process but may provide input if a cadet chooses to appeal the applied sanctions.
  1. A cadet’s inability or unwillingness to participate in scheduled corps activities, athletic and
    extracurricular activities, and other programs as required may trigger a suitability board review to encourage and motivate the cadet and/or determine his continued enrollment at MMA,
  1. The MMA Drug and Alcohol Policy, as outlined in the Cadet Handbook, is designed to proactively deal with behavior that is strictly prohibited at MMA and in violation of federal and Missouri state laws. Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal. All cadets are subject to mandatory random urinalysis.

    The possession, use, purchase, attempted purchase, sharing, or selling of illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, alcohol, as well as the use or abuse of inhalants, legal substances misused to obtain a “high,” performance enhancing substances, or other substances taken for similar effect is strictly prohibited. Cadets are
    prohibited from using any prescription medication that is not specifically prescribed to them or using any
    prescription medication with the intention to get high or experience hallucinogenic effects.

    Any violation of this policy will result in disciplinary actions up to including dismissal. If allowed to stay enrolled at MMA, cadets who violate MMA’s Drug and Alcohol Policy are required to attend six mandated counseling sessions by the Academy’s licensed professional counselor at the families’ expense.

  1. MMA is a tobacco-free campus to include all tobacco products and e-cigarettes (vaping). Violation of the MMA Tobacco Policy, including use, distribution, or possession, will result in disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal.
  1. Cadets are required to provide their own medical/health insurance. International students are required to
    purchase health insurance through MMA’s preferred provider (Lewermark). Domestic cadets who do not carry health insurance must keep $300 in an MMA reserve account for emergency doctor visits and care.

    Medications that have been prescribed by a cadet’s personal physician or the MMA- contracted health service providers must be logged in, maintained, and dispensed at the cadet health center. Cadets failing to properly take prescribed medications may be required to appear before a suitability board, possibly resulting in dismissal. Misuse, abuse, or unauthorized possession of prescription or over-the-counter drugs,
    supplements, and vitamins are a violation of the MMA Drug Policy and could result in actions up to and including dismissal.

    All medications, supplements, and vitamins to be dispensed at the health center shall be prescription or
    doctor’s note and packaged in an MMA approved bubble/blister card. The cadet health center is required to destroy all expired medication or medication not recognized or widely used by US providers.

  1. MMA takes all mental health issues seriously, including suicide ideations, threats of suicide, or threats or actions of self-harm. If necessary Cadets who threaten to engage in or imply self-harm or suicide will be evaluated by the clinic staff, and transported for further evaluation to the University of Missouri Medical Center or alternative health care provider at the cost of the parent. Prior to the cadet being allowed to return to MMA, the guardian will be required to provide documentation from a certified clinical psychologist stating their cadet is mentally fit for boarding school life and poses no further threat to himself or others.
  1. Every effort is made to ensure a safe, healthy, and secure environment at MMA and that cadets avoid “high risk behavior.” Cadets engaged in bullying, hazing, sexual misconduct, sexual assault, gang related activity, threats of violence or found possessing weapons, inclusive ofbut not limited to rifles and handguns (including pellet, air soft, BB, and “look alike” weapons), knives, multi-tools, and other cutting tools, or explosive devices may be immediately dismissed from the Academy. Rooms, personal belongings, and vehicles may be inspected at any time by the MMA staff and faculty.
  1. MMA maintains a very strict cell phone policy and computer policy. Cadets are reminded that their computer, cell phone, internet, and social media activity are neither private nor secure. Cadets are not invisible when they are on the internet or cell phones. What cadets do on their computers or cell phones
    could jeopardize their reputations, compromise their integrity, and make them and their fellow cadets’ targets of unlawful activity. Cadets will be held accountable for their actions and behavior while using social media, on a cell phone, computer or smart watch. Any activity that degrades MMA’s internet
    capacity, brings discredit to MMA or contributes/supports breaking Academy rules, to include: unethical, dangerous or illegal activities, inappropriate comments, photographs, videos, hacking, or any behavior considered to be threats, harassment or cyber bullying, may result in disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal.
  1. Maintaining a vehicle or driving another person’s vehicle at MMA is not allowed for boarding cadets. Day cadets authorized to have a vehicle can only drive to and from campus and park in designated areas. Keys will be turned in to a designated school official.
  1. MMA does not provide insurance for repair or replacement of a cadet’s personal property. The safekeeping of a cadet’s personal property is the sole responsibility of the cadet, and cadets are provided lock boxes. Cadets are expected to provide their own personal property insurance, and any damage that may occur to their property is at their expense.
  1. Tuition and fees are expected to be paid on time. The business office must be notified in writing immediately if financial obligations cannot be met. Failure to pay tuition and fees on time will result in no access to online grades, and not releasing transcripts or diploma, and forfeiting any financial assistance awarded with possible disenrollment.
  1. Cadets are expected to have in their possession their required MMA uniform issue (all items) as well as
    ensure those items are serviceable, clean, and properly fitted at all times. They will be required to purchase
    missing and/or unserviceable items. “Serviceable” is defined as free of tears, rot, punctures, stains, and
    signs of fraying and excessive wear and applies to all footwear. “Properly fitted” is defined as meeting MMA and published fitting standards for US Army Service Uniforms (ASUs) and Operational Camouflage Patterns (OCPs).
  1. Cadets are required to provide complete travel plans/itineraries within two weeks prior to departure for all
    furloughs and open weekends. Parents of cadets whose travel includes airline, bus, or train departures will provide accurate ticket information that shows the cadet’s final destination and return dates and times.
  1. Cadets are required to take care of Academy property. Cadets tampering with or breaking security cameras,
    alarms, thermostats, window screens, doors locks, athletic equipment or other Academy property, etc., will be fined and held financially liable to repair damage or replace item, with possible disciplinary actions up to and including dismissal.
  1. I have read and understand the above requirements and have reviewed them with my cadet. By signing below and initialing above, I agree to abide by the rules and regulations contained above and those enumerated in the Cadet Handbook and Cadet Honor Manual.
